2010 Value for Money Audit on the Adjudication and Claims Administration Program

Each year the WSIB is required by legislation to perform a Value for Money Audit (VFMA) on the cost, efficiency, and effectiveness of a particular program.  For 2010, the Adjudication and Claims Administration (ACA) program was chosen for the VFMA as part of a coordinated set of initiatives aimed at improving our business practices and enhancing the accuracy and quality of our decisions.

The VFMA is one component of our strategic plan, and will be used together with the Funding Review, our Framework for Policy Development and Renewal and internal administrative changes to create a stronger, sharper focus on understanding and delivering what matters to our stakeholders.

Findings

The VFMA report found the ACA program is providing value for money, due in part to initiatives such as the Service Delivery Model, which are contributing to improved return to work outcomes, as well as quality, consistency and speed of decision-making.

But the VFMA also noted that we must do more, and made 10 recommendations for change.

We have accepted the recommendations, and will use the findings of the report to continue towards the goal of becoming a faster, more accessible and cost-effective system with a renewed focus on return to work in everything we do.

I encourage you to look over the report, as it is a critical component of our work for the coming year.
