    Labour Market Re-entry

Research shows that the best outcome for an injured worker and their employer is when the injured worker can return to their pre-injury workplace. Where this is not possible, or seems unlikely, the WSIB will assess whether the injured worker should enter into a Labour Market Re-entry (LMR) program.

Labour Market Re-entry is a process that includes an assessment of your abilities, and may include a plan that will help prepare you to get back into the workforce.

    The LMR Process
The LMR process begins when one of three situations occurs:
    • It is unlikely that you will return to work with your employer because of the type of injury you have, or
    • Your employer is not able to provide suitable work
    • Suitable work is work that
    • is safe
    • restores your pre-injury earnings as closely as possible
    • your abilities allow
    • you have skills for
    • Your employer is unwilling to cooperate in arranging work.
    Steps in the Process
There are several steps in the LMR process:

    1. We may hire outside professionals, called LMR service providers, to help with your LMR assessment. In your assessment, we consider your:

      • work experience
      • skills
      • academic abilities
      • physical abilities.
    2. Together, you and your LMR service provider develop a plan proposal based on the assessment results.
    3. Your service provider then submits the LMR options outlined in the plan proposal to your adjudicator.
    4. Your adjudicator determines which option is the most appropriate and cost effective plan to prepare you to return to work.
    5. If the plan is approved, your adjudicator notifies you, your employer and the LMR service provider of the decision.

While you participate in the plan, your adjudicator monitors your progress and continues to pay your benefits.

Your LMR service provider will also monitor your progress throughout the duration of the plan, and work with you on any issues or challenges that might arise.

Once the plan ends, your adjudicator reviews your entitlement to any further wage replacement benefits.
